Dr Matthew Palmer is a specialist dermatologist at Riversdale Dermatology, Melbourne, and Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists.
After completing his Bachelor of Biomedical Science and Bachelor of Science (Honours) at the University of Melbourne, he undertook four years of graduate medical training at the University of Queensland, graduating in 2008 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. Dr Palmer worked at the Royal Brisbane Hospital for two years prior to commencing four years of Dermatology specialist training.
Dr Palmer trained in Brisbane and Melbourne, and was also selected to undertake 12 months of his training in the United Kingdom. His training covered all aspects of general medical, surgical, and paediatric dermatology. He has broad interests in all aspects of general and surgical dermatology, including inflammatory skin disorders such as eczema and psoriasis, acne, rosacea, skin cancer management, hair loss disorders, and paediatric dermatology, as well as laser treatments.
As well as working in private practice, Dr Palmer is a Consultant Dermatologist at the Royal Melbourne. He has previously been a consultant at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Western Hospital, and in the specialist Hair & Nail Clinic and Laser Clinic at the Skin Health Institute (formerly the Skin & Cancer Foundation).
Dr Palmer is Director of Training for the Australasian College of Dermatologists, for Victoria since 2021, sitting on the National Training Committee. He is heavily involved in selection, training, and assessment of trainee Dermatologists in this role.
Dr Palmer has published papers in the Australasian Journal of Dermatology as well as internationally, and has spoken at national Dermatology conferences.
Dr Palmer is also a member of the American Association of Dermatology, and the Royal Society of Medicine, London, ensuring he remains up to date with the latest developments in diagnosis and management.
